What is involved with a great crested newt survey?
An initial scoping survey of a site to see if there is potential for great crested newts to be present can be carried out at any time of year. This involves an assessment of the site, and where accessible, potential breeding sites (e.g. ponds) adjacent the site.
If there is potential for great crested newts to be active on site then Phase 2 great crested newt surveys may be needed. These primarily include Environmental DNA (eDNA) sampling and/or a series of aquatic surveys at potential breeding sites.
Once the surveys are complete our ecologists will be able to provide you with a detailed report outlining the survey results and any identified impacts, with recommendations for mitigation, if necessary.
Our great crested newt survey page provides more detailed information regarding what is involved in carrying out a great crested newt survey.
